Yarn Circles Wellbeing Cards have been designed to provide opportunities for students to talk about their feelings, emotions, thoughts and ideas in a safe, positive and collaborative environment. This process reflects the traditional Yarn Circles time that was such an important part of the culture of our First Nations' people. We see it as an extremely important ancient practice that is now fulfilling a very modern need.
Yarn Circles Wellbeing Cards will provide opportunities for students to express themselves through oral language and therefore increasing the learning experiences. The activities are designed to help you draw on students' prior knowledge, circumstances, imagination, visual, aural, oral and written capacity to bring about increased understanding, acceptance, empathy, self-awareness, self-worth and the opportunity for positive change.
This collection of 30 laminated, full colour cards created by Yaegl woman Krystal Randall has been developed to pass on to children a sense of self and wellbeing, a connection to each other and an understanding of how Indigenous people feel their own connection to the land and their culture. Each card includes a symbol created by the author which clearly represents a feeling or emotion. The reverse side includes activities, Yarn Time ideas, Yarn further activities and professional guidance as well as the First Nations word for the feeling.

Get active with this collection of 35 fun games inspired by traditional and contemporary Indigenous games.
Each game has been designed in consultation with Indigenous communities around Finland, and includes background information to help children understand the Indigenous context of each activity. There is a focus on developing throwing, catching and strengthening activities, and by combining cards you will have complete lesson plans, from warm-up to skill building to game practice!
How to use the cards:
• Choose from five categories of games–warm-ups, tracking, strengthening, running, and catching/throwing.
• Decide on the aim of the game–is it for children to learn a new skill, or for strengthening and developing current skills?
• Review the easy-reference symbols for cautions (eg. collision risks that may help organisational decisions), number of participants, and indoor or outdoor space required.
• Discuss with children the cultural context of the game.
• Gather any equipment you may need.
• Play!
